Good suggestion. May be able to get a payout under travel insurance from the credit card company. Will vary depending on the credit card, but worth a shot.
Such coverage is one of the reasons I keep my Diners Club card. Excellent coverage for travel and rental cars (banged one up a couple of years ago and it was zero out of pocket and no ding on my personal policy).
