Thanks a ton for making me understand a car isn't realistic. I've re-evaluated and am now looking at the following plan:

- fly into London for about 4 days utilizing local public transport
- take an LCC flight to Edinburgh, get a car for 2-3 days to see a bit of Scotland

Unfortunately I'm aware of the extreme costs of England and London in particular, so we're going to be staying in hostels.
