My stay GLONP2 stay is in July -- for my wedding anniversary, and this also will be the kids' first trip to HI. Two more stays to diamond for me (that'll be done in three weeks or less) but no upgrade offer yet, and my room is listed as "accessible" (which has me concerned because the other handicap-accessible rooms in which I've stayed lack bath counterspace). So it seems like I'm going to have to beat my own drum to get some peace of mind about an upgrade at the Waikoloa.
Never did get the manager e-mail address so I just sent one to the old address I had from '04:

Actually, now I'm thinking that's not the address I had from '04 - I think it was something with "rooms" in it, but I must've decided to just use their advertised e-mail address. Anyway...I really don't know that it mattered all that much. We had rooms in the Ocean Tower, but at the Island-side (i.e. not ocean-view) - the reason they gave was that that's where connecting rooms are. When I said no thanks, they were very accommodating and gave us one full-on ocean-view room (4th floor) and one partial ocean-view (5th floor). They were definately close enough to not worry about the connecting room issue - although ironically, the 5th floor room had a connecting door in it so I'm not sure about their original argument for the poor-view rooms.
I think it really boils down to how busy the hotel is. In our case, it seemed fairly empty until our 2nd to last day when it filled up (was denied a late-checkout because it was full). In your case, I would definately call the Diamond Desk once you get Diamond and make sure your reservation reflects your new status just in case. I never had a NOR1 upgrade offer. Good luck and enjoy your time there!
