With effect from 1st May 2007, the UK Department for Transport will be introducing additional security checks on liquids carried in hand luggage through all UK and Channel Island Airports.

From that date, a sample of liquids carried in hand luggage will be subject to routine testing. This test involves sampling a liquid with a test strip, which then tracks for evidence of certain substances. The sample rate is relatively low and the test only takes a few seconds.
