I like that RTW thread - thank you. I myself know nothing about the Oneworld RTW - and I am happy to learn and compare. I feel quite competent with the StarAlliance RTW-possibilites:

3544quebec: "One of my Star Alliance 38000 mile RTW fares came to ...38000 miles on the button". You can get credit for more miles (and status miles) with StarAlliance than the ticket-limits. On short segments the tarifs are calculated on effectif miles, the credits on minimum miles - in january I only paid the 32'000 miles tarif - but the base miles credit totalized 33'680 (plus bonus of 100% for paying/flying business), because we had some small (european) segments: Zurich-Copenhague and Frankfurt - Zurich.
