This kind of stuff with mechanical issues forcing turnbacks happens more often than anyone realizes. It's not news, certainly. I'm surprised the media circus didn't try to link this to JetBlue outsourcing part of its heavy maintenance to El Salvador. I think when you have an airline with high aircraft utilization like B6, problems like this are bound to crop up from time to time. And, it sounds like the passengers were appropriately compensated and fed, which is really all they can do.
Let them try. The TACA maintenance facility in San Salvador is state of the art and these guys do a truely remarkable job. Do a little digging and you'll get to realize how reputable TACA has become and how many US airlines use their expertise.
