Well, it makes sense if you consider that C/P/G are charge cards; much as I wish I could pay the charges during the statement period (I don't keep most of my money in the checking account that pays the bills, f'rinstance), I think AmEx doesn't want us floating large sums of cash.

I can also figure there's places where an AmEx is taken in more machines than my CU's debit card, too.
