Which Way do I Go
What credit card offers the lowest cost mile accumulation with the least restrictive reward redemption, I am open to most domestic airlines however the majority of my flying is to Houston.
Enjoyed (endured) top status on Continental from 2001 through 2004 – Since June of 2003 my travel patterns have not allowed any elite qualification since.
Still have to go to Houston 4 -6 times a year from SoCal, so Continental is the only viable option for non stop. Been away from the forum since leaving the life of a road warrior (10K per month for two years) , but it is clear that Continental is now valuing the total dollars spent per ticket over the continued loyalty as it relates to upgrades.
Down to nominal balances in the various FF accounts I have played in since the early 80’s:
Delta – Account Balance – Zero – (R/T’s redeemed 7) dropped Delta in 2001 when I was commuting to Houston weekly – Concentrated my business with Continental to achieve status
America West/US Air – Approx 44 K ( R/T’s redeemed 3) Note: have Barclays M/C tied to the account which has generated current points balance
Continental- Approximate Balance 70 K R/T’s Redeemed 23
United – Approximate Balance 7 K – (Allowed miles to expire (before I found FT) and transferred the grandfathered miles into Hilton Honors( no longer possible ). Still receiving Safeway Points (Vons) keeping the account active.
Family circumstances are changing, I now can book my reservations in two’s versus four or five so the two remaining balances are usable in my current recreational travel needs.
What credit card program will generate the maximum value at the least possible cost ?
