SQ is the carrier at my home doorsteps and I have to make an effort to travel UA rather than SQ. Still I am easily willing to go there everytime I fly.
The fact that SQ has no elite zone aboard its planes, blatantly disregards *A privileges leaves me with nothing but a slightly better IFE and much more cramped seats (thanks to the IFE to a large degree), misbehaving & inexperienced travelers, and not even half the mileage bonus as on UA.
So definitely nothing to do with low standards alone but the factoid that the FFP by now is an inseparable part of airline quality overall.
It's quite true that recognition for *A Golds on SQ is seriously lacking.
Benefits like preferred seating in Y and clearing of waitlists are (rightly, imho) kept for their own elite tier PPS members.
