My wife and I intend to continue traveling now that we have an infant. And, we fully intend to sit in whatever class we would have done before (be it F, J or Y, depending on the situation). Additionally, we have no intention of not having a seat for our baby- during take off and landing, we definitely want her in her car seat. however, the rest of the time, she'll most likely be in my or her mother's arms.
So, rather than buy 3 upper class seats, or all sit in coach, we felt it would be sensible to buy 2 upper, and one coach seat. during takeoff and landing, mom and the baby would sit in upper class (baby in her car seat), and I'd sit in the coach seat. during the rest of the flight, the baby seat would sit empty in coach, and the baby would sit on my or her mother's lap. so my question is this: Who's seat is the coach seat? Do I buy my seat in coach, since I'll really only be the person ever sitting there, or do i put the baby in coach (who will never sit there), because the majority of the flight, the baby's carseat will be occupying that seat?
less than 2 years must travel with an accompanying adult passenger on the same ticket/cabin
Youd have to buy a coach seat for yourself while wifey rides up front with the baby, then of course you wont be able to change cabins during flight, so (and you know its going to happen

) while your baby is happily crying away on your wifes lap your first class seat will be empty .
Edit to add.
How do I get reduced F or J fare for a child in a seat?
Cant any more I'm afraid, no discounts for kids any more.
