I believe that no matter how nice the op is to the FAs, it is unlikely they will permit him to uninstall a baby seat from the J class seat and then take it back to the Y class - have the passesengers in that row move in order to strap it into the seat there, and then do the same in reverse prior to landing. Too much disruption and inconvenience to the other travelers.
Good point - No real reason to strap the seat into the coach seat. I can skip that step - just keep it close at hand under the seat in front in J, so if the need arises, we can quickly install it in the J seat and I can get back to Y.
