Possibly they expected those people to show up in the morning. Were you looking at a one-way reservation? Maybe saw a pinch coming and they felt they needed all the cars they had later in the week. I dunno. If it was me, I'd take the bird in the hand, but I'm sure the guy with the reservation who doesn't get a car is harder to deal with than the guy who doesn't have a reservation.
That is EXACTLY what happens!!! Early the next morning we are swamped with cusotmers that were due in the night before and once a reservation is in place we need to have a car for that customer. Glad to hear that a car was available from Budget...as long as no one is stranded anywhere.
