I'm in the exact same boat - partner booked on same flight using their credit card (we simply split the cost and now split the booking - dumb move, in retrospect) and now I can select seats (being OW Sapphire), but he can't (OW Ruby). BA Customer Service said linking the PNR's is not possible.

I said "so we're in paid Club World JFK-LHR, and simply because he paid for his ticket separately, we cannot sit together" - she said "you'll be able to sit together when he selects his seat 24 hours before departure".
