RTW Using Vacation Time at Work

Hello,

I'm just starting my career and I can't really take a full month off to do a RTW. Since the RTW is good for 1 year of travel, are there certain strategies/tricks to break it up?

For example, I could probably squeeze 2 weeks at a time. So I thought I would:
1. Take the US-Aus/NZ portion of the RTW for 2 weeks
2. Book a RT AUS-US-AUS flight (returning back to AUS a few months later for my next vacation time block)
3. Continue my RTW from AUS-ASIA for 2 weeks
4. Book an ASIA-US-ASIA to restart my RTW a few months later
5. ASIA-DXB-EU-US for 2-3 weeks...

How are the rest of you guys doing it? Retiring? Taking leave of absence?

If I break up the RTW, it would be better to take a break where there are cheap RT flights to the US; which int'l city pairs to LAX/SFO generally have the cheapest fares?
