The OP posted pretty much the same thread in the China forum and my advice there was similar to yours; 2 hours is plenty of time to connect at PVG. But, I posted about hotels in this thread because he seems risk averse; plus a night in Shanghai is rarely a bad thing.

If it comes down to this, I dare say the OP will have already missed the check-in deadline and will be SOL. Basically, if you check in by the 45 minute deadline, I think it's physically impossible to miss a flight. During those rare cases when immigration really backs up (only happenned to me twice durng the past 10 years -- once at PEK and once at CAN, flights tend to get held).
