Nottingham trains go from St Pancras, and are operated by Midland Mainline. Their 'Meridian' trains are nice, but the under-carriage engines make them a little noisy.
You are right, it was St Pancras.

Also, someone sent me this website which shows Virgin F on the Pendolino - the windows do look kind of small, and it's not clear that there is much recline in the seats either...
