Willyroo, congratulations on the newbie. I would expect that by December/January the littly will be too big for the inflight bassinet. So I would take a different view and suggest that carefully selected Y seats might be easier. And save the money for the pleasurable things to do on the holiday.
At least with 4 x Y seats you can have the bub lie/sit on this own seat during meals.
It will be a challenge to entertain two young ones on that trip, and that will be the same in Y or J. The kids won't know the difference and won't appreciate the extra cost/meals. They don't have leg-room problems.
I would avoid the bulkhead and exit rows and try for 4 seats where you can raise the centre arm rests and stretch out. The kids won't need much seat space and will sleep almost anywhere at that age (especially with enough Phenergan deposited into them

).
The most important thing is to ensure Mrs Willyroo is happy. There is nothing worth that a hostile holiday!
