My advice Willyroo, is to go with the J as babies will not do very well in a Y seat (hard to sleep) but will be fine in a Bassinet for the long haul. However at 15 months, he might not do too much sleeping.

Bassinet's are mostly upto 6 months and 8 kilos - and if you're lucky upto about 12 mo's. This depends on the airline. so 15 months is out of the question. I still would advise J because it will be much more comfortable to sleep with your kid on top of you in a j seat than have no sleep at all in a y seat and you may have a decent chance of a free seat in j class. Ask when checking in if they leave a seat next to you free.
