Back from a weekend in Venice.
For whatever reason I had a big problem to find any affordable hotel so I used a few points and I gave a try to the Boscolo-Bellini.
Boscolo was an hotel chain I was aware of but I had never staid with them. The Bellini hotel is a four star hotel, there's an other one Dei Dogi which is a five star but there was no availability. Not too disappointed because the location was quite convenient, just a few meters away from the railway station and bus terminal.
If you need it, there's also a pier of the water public transport system, more or less in front. The hotel should have been the result of merging two different buildings because walking inside the property you have to manage a few steps and it happens an all floors. The common area reminded me of the Marriott style, red and wooden brown. The windows in the room and one in the bathroom even if the room was not too big, perhaps a 20 sqm sleeping room.
Brand new carpet, brand new wall paper, carved wooden bed... and the 100% Hilton TV system. Quite poor IMO... and the movie titles were exactly the ones listed last weekend in the Hilton Trafalgar. Bathroom: red marble and bathtub, no separate shower. Plenty of fluffy towels.
During my stay a Globe tour was staying there so average customer was looking like a 60 something massive US person. I think a lot of tours use this hotel so it explain the actually disappointing breakfast service. Chatting with the receptionist during the check out I was told that it's managed by a third party, so no big room for improvement... just following the agreed contract T&Cs. For example paper napkin and not cotton ones, only scramble eggs (a big unique mass) and bacon. No beans or sausages. The orange juice was screaming 'from concentrate' from far away. Just one kind of danish pastry.
No fresh fruit or something a bit fancy. Not true, the price of such a breakfast was fancy ! 18 EUR. Ok, it's Venice but when a hand squeezed red orange juice, sitting in the sun, cost less than 5 EUR... you think about value for the money of this breakfast.
I suggest this hotel without any problem and it's so easy to reach that it's perfect. I read on a thread of 2003 something about the direction of a nearby Sofitel (something like 20 turns direction) that made the FTer decide to cancel his stay there, even if in reality it's very near and easy to reach (well, at least knowing where it's located

)
