I was on the SFO-ORD redeye in F recently. It was taking a while to load the Y cabin and the FAs seemed to be busy trying to get everyone seated. I noticed a man wearing a pilot's uniform walking down the aisle with a tray of drinks. I stopped him as he came by and asked if he was the captain. Sure enough, the captain was serving pre-departure drinks. "Thought I'd help out," he said, and mentioned that he'd once even taken meal orders.

I thought it was a nice gesture. Has anyone else seen it? I'd rather not mention his name in case it's against union rules.
