No recent experience, but a dozen years ago there was a real sleeper steak house which was one of the best in the US. This was Western Village Inn at Sparks (also has a casino, which probably accounts for the rather good steak house operation). Better than the Peppermill (which owns it); otherwise I think the Peppermill has the best beef in Reno. Harrah's has great lamb (locally grown in the Sierras) but their steaks are just average (good but not special, and twice the Western Village price). Harrah's used to be the only place that could make a souffle, though (they had pressurized ovens, to compensate for the altitude).
