I think this is for BA's miles calculation.
The way I read it, you get:
(base miles + 500) x (1.00 + status bonus + cabin bonus) on BA
and
max(1000, base miles) x (1.00 + status bonus + cabin bonus) on Qantas
I may be wrong on the status and cabin part of the QF calculation as I haven't been elite on it yet. Dave Noble will know for sure, he seems encyclopaedic.
Makes sense -- most BA trips are short, most QF trips are long.
