I belonged to that "rare" group of Diamonds and was Diamond for 10 years (and still am until 2009) but have now shifted 90% of my (real) high end business (only European Hilton and Conrads) to Starwood. They give me as top tier consistent real (suite) upgrades and all promotions available. On first sight, it looks more difficult to obtain free nights with them but at the end of the day (with online booking bonus', Platinum amenity and promos) it turns out to be by far easier.
That is true but most ES properties also have huge Presidential type suites. I stayed at the ES in Indy (among others) and was in a suite with 2 floors, 3 baths and a huge balcony overlooking the city. I always tell people to ask for the ug if staying for only a couple of nights.
