I thought we had a thread about that a couple of months ago here in Budget Travel, though it may have only been for hostels.

Since you are not geting any help here, I'll move the thread to the Florida forum, maybe someone there will help.

There is a place right off Duval called Southern Cross Hotel that's fairly reasonable, but it's been years since I stayed there. My last time in Key West about a year ago I was going to stay at the IAH Hostel, but after I paid for it a women saw me and asked if I wanted to rent a room at her place instead.

Didn't get my money back from the hostel even though I haven't even put my things inside yet, but the private room was so much better than the 8 or 10 person shared room that I just let it go.

I have also stayed in some of the mom and pop motels up to 70 miles outside of Key West, and just drove in for the day because it was much cheaper than accomodations there.
