Pitflyer,
Up until soemtime in February there is the open air cinema at Mrs Macquarie's Chair. The food stalls are terrrific and you get to watch a variety of movies at sunset overlooking our 2 best known locations - The Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Check the cinema section in the papers as the movies are different each evening and you do need to book. I think tikatek handle them and you may be able to secure them online before you travel if you're interested.
A day at the beach, or just a part day is also worthwhile. I'd skip Manly (especially if you do the zoo) and go for Bondi or Bronte (great cafe's) at both.
If you''re into seafood then a trip to the fish markets is as good as it gets and you can buy it there from sashimi, sushi to lobster, take it outside and sit on the wharf and watch the planes glide past. A tram from Central will get you there.
Some restaurants worth a visit:
Expensive = Rise (great Japanese), Cadmus, Circular Quay for views and Mddle Eastern food, Tetsuya's very well known but hard to get in.
Moderate to cheap = XO, a Niel Perry restaurant with Asian influence, Jimmy Licks across the road (neither take bookings but both have a cocktail bar), Sel et Poivre, my local French bistro
If you're a foodie, you'll be in heaven at any of these.
Regards
