Thanks. flyaow brings back the right flights (although seems to be having some problem displaying all the booking classes on one flight, and the ones displayed are in the wrong order - C then Y then some others in alphabetic order but missing several as well ). It was seatcounter with the error - it brought back LAX-LHR only (ie nothing for AKL-LAX) and failed to find NZ's own LAX-LHR.
