To the OP:
It is very unfortunate that your privacy and security was invaded and violated. Whom every the culprit is, they will more then likely get caugh in the long run. Unfortunatly every airline denies responsibility for and important electronic equipment that is placed in a checked bag. I'm not going to say it will happen in your case, but I have seen customers reimbursted for electronic equipment that turned up missing from a bag.
There really is only 2 things that you can do. I believe you did one by contacting JetBlueand informing them of the situation and the lost articles and equipment. The response you recieved from us, however unfortunate, is going the be the response you pretty much get from any airline. I did it at my old airline when I worked airport operations. The second option is head to here
TSA Claims It will have all the information you should need to report you missing items to the TSA. I don't know what their policy is or how they handle these types of incidents but that website should have all the information you would need to report it to the TSA.
I really hope your articles turn up safe and sound and it is really unfortunate that this happened to you. I wish cameras where installed in the baggage makeup areas and CTX areas to help prevent these types of crimes but nobody seems to want to take the first step.
