It would be an awfully painful penalty to suddenly have North America shrink to the continental boundary (including the 51st state), losing all of Central America and the Caribbean, because of the origination.
Similar things happen with Ex-Australia or NZ originations and the rest of the SWP. As regards your routings we all know that sometimes mistakes are made but I don't believe the board (and the AA rtw desk) has ever agreed that the US/Canada exception is actually a US/Canada/Caribbean/Central America exception.
