My recent US experience: On-line chat agent honored my request for row 1 on an EMB-145 about 4 weeks in advance;
Her response to my "Can I get pre-assigned row 1 on an EMB-145 leg?" query;
"I don't see why not!" (Perhaps this is where the CP desk angels have landed)
I think the previously active "hotel guy" made it clear, this was HP's previous practice, I can see no conclusion other than the implementation of Shares institutionalized the block off of these highly desirable seats. You can get them pre-assigned if you find a coperative agent; you may lose them if
1) Policy has been violated AND
2) anyone is awake enough to recognize that's what happened
OR
1) At airport; 4 genuinely mobility limited people have a need for these specific seats, in which case reassignment should be OK.
I did note while doing some recent Delta flight planning that DL does block non-exit bulkhead seats off; I'll be pressing for "day before" assignment if my
DL upgrade doesn't clear!
