I flew Amsterdam to Halifax via LHR yesterday. Give yourself at least 2 hours connection in LHR and you should be fine. LHR can be a pain, but so can YYZ. The flight to Halifax is relatively short, and customs is a breeze. Can't say the same for arrival in YYZ.
