My Fiance and I will be traveling to Mexico in the beginning of May. The first flight is sold out according to seatcounter ( PHL -> IAH ). She will be carrying her wedding dress, so I'm wondering if the 737-500s have a decent size closet on board.

Should we call ahead to ask CO if it's alright to store the dress in a closet somewhere? Shipping is an option, but to that part of Mexico costs are very pricey. For nearly the same price, I'd consider another coach ticket if the flight wasn't sold out. The wedding isn't until later in the year, so it doesn't matter as much if it gets wrinkled.
