It sounds like there were 2 separate, unrelated, mechanicals on consecutive days. With 100 pax affected on the first flight (wow -- light loads on those JQ flights from HNL!), and 200 additional pax on the 2nd day. QF/JQ could not have anticipated the 2nd failure at the time of planning for the first, and it is quite possible that the travel time for alternative airlines may have been longer than waiting for the JQ flight the next day (I haven't bothered to check, but the HA flight to SYD might have left already that day, for example). So it is possible that JQ handled the first delay well -- we don't have any details about that, one way or the other. The complaint seems to be from the 2nd delay, and I can understand the frustration, but this happens all the time, so it is hardly newsworthy.

At least now we know JQ loads are under 50%, which bodes ill for the continued operation of the HNL service, once the politics are right.
