They're great for cheapo generic stuff (resistors, no-name passives, etc.).

For great, quick service with tons-o-selection, digikey rocks. You pay for service though.

Don't ignore Radio Shack. If you need one stupid resistor/cap/connector today and a Rat Shack is nearby, it's worth a shot.
