Well I found out what happened.
South African Airways cancelled their part of my ticket because Delta never sent them a ticket number.
That's why the SAA portion disappeared.
Delta had to rebook me, and I have to go back to the airport for a new paper ticket.
No upgrade, of course.
Not that I'd expect it to work, but I'd use that screwup to push the upgrade dilemma.
"It's a good thing I noticed your mistake. That really would have put a damper on my trip. What a hassle I have to go to the airport, which I really don't have time to do, but have to since this happened. I do have a way you can make it up to me."
