Hang tight with us. This is far from an exact science.
We are trying to follow Randy's Terms Of Service and "Rules", which he has created. Please don't forget we are his guests, and he spend a remarkable amount of money annually for this site. Ultimately he is the final decision maker on how the site should be run.
Now having said that, he is finalizing the creation of a "Politburo" of well known FT'ers to be advisors. There will be growing pains related to anything new, whether it is the significantly expanded FT boards, or moderation. Constructive feedback is extremely welcomed.
And as to the question of who we are, both Moderator1 and myself have been around since 1998. We are not affiliated with any of Randy's business. We are volunteers.
Personally, I have mixed feelings about coming out into the open, and moderating under my own handle. If I am posting on a travel related thread as a regular evangelist member, will I be thought of as the same person I always was? Or, since sometimes I post as a "Moderator" are my comments now tainted?</font>
we all appreciate randy's kind effort for offering us such a community.
we voice our concern because we care, and we would like this site to be a business success for randy as well.
our suggestions here are consistent with all research about online behavior.
once the site becomes too fragmented and users find it difficult to nevigate and hard to use, the community dies out and so will the site.
people are reluctant to change and tend to be lazy. and we dont want to check multiple forum if possible.
research shows that there is an optimal number of forum one would check into, and i don't think this number is more than 10 --most likely les than 5. (3-4 for myself unless i am very bored, like at this moment)
ken said all about what works best for most of us. ideally the thread should be archived at where the moderators put but appears at multiple forum + buzz, just like the forum OMIN is on all 4 categories but at the thread level. however, i am not sure if the software at this version is capable of doing this. (it surely should be the goal for the next version)
in between, can we have a "free speech forum" as ken suggested?
i hope this makes sense to you -- moderators and randy?
