That's putting it gently. The accident (fatal or not) rate quoted for national helicopter flights is 2.21 per 100k hours of flight time. So, that would mean an average of one accident per 45,248 hours. Break that 45,248 up into 200 parts (i.e., a 0.5% chance) and you get 226 hours.
So, the article's conclusion: "Bottom line: Kaua`i patrons have a 0.5% chance of an accident" would be true only if Kaua`i patrons are taking 226-hour tours of the island. I'm guessing that the author meant to say 0.005%, as that would be about right for a two hour flight.
