At which point I would have drained the cup right there, and said - "OK, I'm ready for that refill!"

Not that I drink Coke, but I've had this situation with water before. Used to just bring my own 1-litre bottle of water aboard (and I drink the whole thing, and look for more during a transatlantic flight) but they won't let us do that anymore
