What is your citizenship and status in the US? The French consular posts in the US tend to be quite lax in the enforcement of the rules if you have a decent travel record and are a current F1/J1/H1B - if you have a pulse, a roundtrip ticket and enough Euros they are usually quite willing to dole out a visa.
