Sure you cannot be tempted by a Chevy SSR (basically a pickup truck with the top chopped off and the bed converted into a huge trunk, made to look like a 1930s roadster)? Totally impractical but eye-catching. Though in LA even Ferraris renting for USD 3000 per day don't turn heads.
You could still go to SF first (and just drive to LA and back; the return can be done in 4 hours on I-5, as long as you are willing to average over 100 mph -- which wont make you the fastest car on that road, most of the time).
