Seriously speaking, skipping out on pre-departure services is a security related issue. Back when AFA was trying to "instruct" its members to halt all pre-departure services last year, one of our talking points was that it is important to do a full pre-departure because it gets the FAs in the aisles interacting with customers so they can determine if there is anyone that they don't feel comfortable flying with before the door closes.
