Yes, the Australian flights count as well. There are a number of possibilities such as AA, CO and US. CO may be your best bet out of these because discounted QF coach fares yield 100% mileage with them. (I assume he's on a discounted ticket - ie not full "Y" fare). If credited to AA, QF discounted coach fares only earn 70% of flight mileage. US may not be such a good choice given their current situation. You may also wish to consider BA's Executive Club North America. He should receive 100% mileage on these flights. However, be sure to check with them first. BA has the advantage of allowing household members to "pool" their mileage through household accounts - a nice feature.
