There is no way to use a Oneworld award (the topic of this forum) for travel entirely within Australia, as the only carrier is QF. You can get a 2nd carrier if you fly SYD-AKL on LAN. Otherwise the award would have to be to/from Australia to get a 2nd carrier (CX, BA, JL).
I will be traveling to either SYD or MEL via AKL on Air New Zealand which is a Star Alliance partner. Maybe I could use LAN for the AKL-SYD or SYD-AKL, and perhaps be eligible for the OneWorld Award. I looked at LAN's schedule. the connection from AKL to SYD is not too good, and I'd probably stick with Air New Zealand, but for the return, I could take LAN from SYD to AKL. Would this work? Would I be eligible for OneWorld Award? Thanks.
