There's certainly a demand for a J-minus ticket. I'd be happy with some more access to the existing seats on a restricted fare basis, just as the Y cabin is currently sold.

Or the ability to upgrade legs for a sensible amount. Why do operational upgrades for free if you've got pax willing to pay $ a week or so ahead.
(I'm often wait listed for SYD-LAX and would happily pay a few hundred to get confirmed in the J cabin)

RTW J tickets are available and, last time I looked, were on par with RTW Y rates - about 3x. (See http://members.shaw.ca/fewmiles/oneworld/rtw.html) There is a pac-rim ticket available.
