Hertz lets me use the #1 Gold counter for PL cars since I am a Gold member. Try finding a hotel that gives elite treatment to its chain's own elites when staying on a PL bid.
I, too, rent a PL car in BOS through "name your own price" almost every weekend and have never gotten a worse car then that for which I bid and, frequently, a better car. Frequently, I get a car for the entire weekend for less than the price of a taxi to my suburban home. Also, Hertz allows #1 Gold counter service (although no #1 Gold board service, but who can complain). IME, no discrimination from the other companies either. I am huge fan.
