Partly that and but mostly due to taxes that CA heaps on at the gas pump. Everytime there is an earthquake, major forest fire or some other natural disaster, CA politicos heap on a "temporary" tax at the pump that never goes away.

I dumped the DL AMEX like a hot potato once I retired. I'm into cards now that earn a 1-3% rebate and have a $0 annual fee. The one I use at the gas pump gives me a 3% rebate which equates to a dime a gallon. But our current gas price is still waaaaaay higher than other parts of the country, dime or no dime.
