I just tried Julius Meinl Cafe. A very nice place, excellent coffee, good pastries. But, the mis-named Black Forest Roulade is good, but not very much like a real SchwartzWald Kirchen Torte. Nonetheless, JMC is well worth a visit.

Also went back to the "new" Lutz's. Looks as though the garden is permanently closed. There is a little, self serve, seating area. You can even get whipped cream on your coffee if you ask for it. They bring out a pastry decorating cone filled with whipped cream and squirt it on your coffee. When I was there they only had chocolate flavored whipped cream which was a little too exotic for me, but, not bad. I was assured they usually have the pure white stuff available. And, it seems they have cut back on the amount of brandied cherries in the Black Forest.

All in all, still a nice spot, but not the very special treat Lutz's was until recently.

Any suggestions for a substitute, other than Julius Meinl Cafe?
