Oh, no, very true Dave -- it's clear that's where folks get the urge to put the "u" in Qantas -- the word itself is clearly quixotic pronunciation-wise. By custom, most words starting with "Qa" have the "Kay" sound when pronounced.
But then again, it IS part of paying attention in life isn't it?!
"School" isn't spelt "skool", and I would imagine the word "neighbour" to confuse the novice to English as well. "Qantas" almost gentle in comparison!
I just find it disappointing the lack of attention people devote to their posts/spelling. Starts at an early age I would imagine.
Is the "u" pronounced in "Lauda"? "La-da", "Lauw-da", I wouldn't have a clue. Is the "h" aspirated in Lufthansa? Or is it a hard "t" sound? Dunno.
