Wrong. Acronyms can and do use other than initial letters:

ac·ro·nym
n.
A word formed from the initial letters of a name, such as WAC for Women's Army Corps, or by combining initial letters or parts of a series of words, such as radar for radio detecting and ranging.

So the reason "QANTAS" is spelled "QANTAS" not "QUANTAS" isn't because it's an acronym (both are), but instead because QANTAS is what the company calls itself.

Or do QANTAS planes come equiped with RDAR?
