I have a couple of beautiful signature pieces - for example, a David Yurman limited edition pendant that is just breath-taking. I do travel with it because this one piece dresses up every "simple suit" I travel with. Since I travel with mostly black mix-n-match pieces (don't we all?), this pendant makes the whole look - every time.
I know it's a risk and someday, if its every lost, I'll come here weeping to all of you. But I'm of similar mind as Peachfront - why have beautiful things you don't wear? Because I'm on the road 4-5 days a week, if I didn't wear them on the road, they wouldn't get worn.
Admittedly, I have the best pieces insured (though that's never a guarantee of replacement) and I'm extremely careful (neurotic) if I place things in an in-room safe to place 12 sticky notes in my roller board reminding me to check the safe before leaving!
