There is significant tour bus service from Queenstown to Milford Sound. I don't imagine you need to do a lot of advance booking in June, but it isn't something you want to leave for day of...
The bus trips are usually packaged as a combo including the cruise on the Sound, and you can also do mix & match combos that have you flying one or both ways, etc...
Any decent guidebook should have names and reviews of operators... or PM me for a 'list'
